From This Little Sparrow

A letter from my home to yours.

Encouragement for the woman creating a life at home.

There are things I wish I could sit across the table and tell the younger version of myself.

Things about motherhood and marriage. About making a home and raising children. About knowing God and learning to trust Him in the middle of ordinary life.

Things I thought mattered so much that, looking back, really didn't.

And things I hardly noticed at the time that I now realize mattered more than I knew.

I wish I could tell her that the hard season wouldn't last forever.

That children really do grow up.

That some of the things she worried about would work themselves out.

That she didn't need to get everything right.

That a peaceful home wasn't the same thing as a perfect one.

That tending her own heart mattered just as much as tending everyone else's.

And that through every beautiful, difficult, ordinary season, God would prove Himself faithful again and again.

I can't go back and write a letter to that younger woman.

But perhaps I can write one to you.

A Little Encouragement Along the Way

Once or twice a month, I'll sit down and write to you from wherever life happens to find me.

Sometimes we'll talk about motherhood.

Sometimes marriage.

Sometimes homemaking, family culture, traditions, hospitality, or creating a home where people know they belong.

Sometimes we'll open Scripture together and remember what is true about God.

Sometimes I'll tell you a story from years ago—and share what I see now that I couldn't see then.

And sometimes I may simply remind you that the small, unseen things you're doing today matter more than you realize.

These won't be letters about doing more.

They won't contain ten steps to becoming a better mother or five ways to finally get your home under control.

I don't have a formula for a perfect family.

And after all these years, I'm increasingly convinced that's not what we need anyway.

I want to write about something deeper.

Who we're becoming as we create a life at home.

Because while we're raising children, tending marriages, making meals, folding laundry, opening our doors, navigating disappointments, celebrating milestones, asking forgiveness, and beginning again—

God is at work in us, too.

Motherhood With a Long View

When you're standing in the middle of motherhood, it can be difficult to see beyond the season you're in.

I've been there.

I've lived through years when little people seemed to need me every waking moment. Years of homeschooling and overflowing laundry and meals for a very full table. Teenage years and growing pains. Beautiful seasons and painful ones.

And then, somehow, children begin growing up.

You start watching them become adults.

And you begin to see motherhood differently.

You realize some things you worried about didn't matter nearly as much as you thought.

And some of the smallest things—the conversations, traditions, prayers, ordinary dinners, forgiveness, laughter, presence, and the faith lived quietly before them—mattered enormously.

I want to write from that perspective.

Not as someone who has motherhood figured out.

But as a woman a little farther down the road who can sometimes turn around and say,

Keep going.

Pay attention to this.

You can let that other thing go.

And don't miss what God is doing right here.

May I Write to You?

I know your inbox doesn't need another thing to keep up with.

So there won't be an email every morning or another endless stream of content asking for your attention.

Just once or twice a month, I'll send you a thoughtful letter from my home to yours.

A little Scripture.

A story.

Something I'm learning or remembering.

Something about faith, motherhood, marriage, homemaking, or family.

And perhaps a little encouragement to help you look differently at the ordinary life unfolding right in front of you.

Because you aren't simply getting through another day at home.

You're creating a life there.

And in the middle of creating that life, God is still creating something beautiful in you.

I'd love to write to you.

From This Little Sparrow

I chose the sparrow because I've never felt like someone who has all the answers.

I'm just a little sparrow who has spent a lot of years learning to depend upon the One who sees.

The One who provides.

The One who remains steady when I am not.

The One who has been faithful through every season of marriage, motherhood, family, and home.

So whatever I have to offer here isn't really a story about having done everything right.

It's a story about His faithfulness in the middle of an ordinary life.

And every now and then, I'd love to gather up a little of what He's taught me and pass it along to you.

From this little sparrow,

Kimberly
